Less than ideal sleep results in daytime drowsiness, loss of resistance to infection, inability to process short term memory, and irritability. Many factors lead to inadequate or irregular sleep: snoring, sleep apnea, a snoring partner, a noisy neighbor, a crying baby, a noisy street, and plain bad habit like late night TV or taking electronics to bed.

Snoring

Snoring is a vibrating of the soft palate or nasal tissues often irritating one’s partner and sometimes waking the snorer. Snoring can be minimized with weight loss, sleeping on the side, and avoiding alcohol. We offer an anti snoring device called SomnoMed which is custom fitted to the mouth and repositions the jaw forward to reduce or stop the vibrations.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is a more serious condition in which breathing stops during the night due to faulty nerve transmission or excess tissue in the mouth or throat. It results in less oxygen to the brain, heart and tissues. You may have heard the phrase “He died in his sleep”. Obstructive Sleep Apnea is epidemic in this country and does not get the attention it deserves. It is often accompanied by snoring.

Although there are visual signs pointing to snoring and sleep apnea, they can only be properly diagnosed with a Sleep Study. A CPAP Machine is the standard for treating sleep apnea. Many people cannot tolerate the CPAP and prefer a dental device like SomnoMed.
